XXXY – ’18 Hours’ EP

XXXY – ’18 Hours’ EP

XXXY, aka Rupert Taylor, unleashes some fresh stargazey house cuts through Rinse just in time for Christmas!

Following up on his wildly addictive Rinse single ‘Never Enough’ and the incredibly crisp ‘Goldfish’ (released in the summer through Doc Daneeka’s Ten Thousand Yen), the label regular returns with to Rinse with his ’18 Hours’ EP.

Having experimented with various movements in dance music over the past few years, from heady peak-time house to acid and swinging UK garage sounds, Rupert Taylor’s productions seem to cultivate an ever-evolving style. On one hand his sound remains pinned to his key strengths, namely space and melody, but on the other he embraces the introduction of new elements through rhythm and instrumentation.

As an EP ’18 Hours’ delivers three original tracks, all of which attack the unique XXY sound from a different angle. The title track itself, nearly six minutes in total, sounds built for the club. With shimmering beginnings leading into a rush of drums and synth lines, washing over the system in mesmeric repetition, the build on this one is subtle but effective as it leads into euphoric climax.

Following tracks ‘Clap Pitch’ and ‘Tool (Satire Mix)’ are considerably tougher, and it’s here that we see some of XXY’s seriously hard-hitting dance floor material take centre stage. ‘Clap Pitch’ is a ravishing burner with an onslaught of static, distortion and electronic shrieks set to tear the dance floor apart, whilst the robust ‘Tool (Satire Mix)’ weighs in with a mass of bristling, acidic bleeps and steely percussion.

Set to drop on December 15th, take a listen to the preview below and pick up your pre-orders here.
