The White Lamp – ‘Ride With You’ EP

Hotflush releases its first EP of 2014 in ‘Ride with You’ from UK duo, The White Lamp. The EP introduces some new faces to Scuba’s label with remixes from enigmatic, Berlin-based triumvirate, ItaloJohnson and Fachwerk supremo Mike Dehnert.

The original mix is a mellow, introspective jam from producer Darren Emerson and vocalist Peter Josef . Perhaps more for home use than a down and out club track, the song highlights what each of the two bring to the collaboration and the resulting synergy.

The ItaloJohnson remix is a typical statement of intent from the wax-wielding vinyl-fanatics. They weave Josef’s vocal into a lively yet tight, atmospheric production.

Mike Denhert’s realisation is stripped-back, uber-minimal take on the original. It adds twisting, rusted, distorted synths to its crisp, clicking beat and expertly reduces Josef’s vocal to a warped, contorted groan.

As well as putting together the original mix, Emerson drops an extended dub of the original for the final track on the EP. This one’s much more upbeat and has a lot more elements going into the mix, finishing off the release with plenty of groove.

This laidback cut and its stripped-back derivatives are out today via Hotflush, on Beatport and vinyl although be warned the ItaloJohnson remix is a vinyl-only release.
