Upcoming Releases: Tracks that’ll keep you going through spring and beyond

Time to look ahead at some the biggest blips on TNG’s Upcoming Releases radar. If you’ve got money burning holes in your pocket or a hot Beatport discount code, then you’re gonna need to check out what’s Fresh Out the Gate but if you want to take a more calculated approach then look no further as we bring you all the hot releases in the pipeline.

House dominates this time around and top of the bill comes the latest EP from a producer making waves at the minute. His name is Rowan Jones but you’ll know him as Route 94. The Londoner first started out as a dubstep producer at the turn of the decade under the alias of Dream and saw support from big names like Chase & Status and an American who we just can’t bring ourselves to name, not on this site! But nonetheless it was clear from day we had a talented kid on the boards.

The ‘Fly 4 Life’ EP is a four-track offering infused with elements of deep and Chicago house with dubstep DNA flowing through the veins of the tracks, especially noticeable in the low-key, looping breakdowns. Title track ‘Fly For Life’ has classic, house chords and vocal stoking the body-jackin’ bass and synth organ rhythms.

‘In My Heart’ is a more modern, deeper proposition but again, particularly between drops, has a second-wave dubstep feel with the pitched-down vocal work and expansive, atmospheric pads. It’s quite and certainly not a peak-time club-track but the production is crisp and the melancholic vibe makes it a perfect track for rush hour commutes.

‘Tell You Why’ from the start sounds deep and garagey with swinging side-sticks under the late ’90s UKG vocal. Reminiscent of SBTRKT, the track is probably more suited for personal consumption as a quick look on our persy playlists will tell you. ‘Walls Come Tumbling Down’ is a bang on trend deep house affair with a throbbing jackamotion and playful, multi-layered melodies under a vocal used sparingly to great effect.

Also on our horizon is a two-track package on Happy Techno Music from Paulo Tella and RanchaTek & Stanny Abram. The ‘Going Deeper/S.W.A.T.’ EP is worth checking out, even for Tella’s effort alone. ‘Going Deeper’ is a vibrant deep house track but despite the increasingly familiar approach to a house bassline, it’s no-nonsense attitude is ready to face-palm anyone who thinks they’re too cool for this school. RanchaTek & Stanny Abram’s ‘S.W.A.T.’ is more in line with the kind of tech house you expect from Happy Techno. Brass builds and restless, upright bass line give it a more continental touch.

Moving away from house comes ‘Future Primitives/Warrior Groove’ double A-side from K-aze on Gutterfunk Records. The artist formally known as Lemon D releases his own EP after his recent collaboration with Shawn T, the future-jungle/juke/footwork/bass-hybrid  ‘Country Livin” EP. In a similar musical vein, both ‘Warrior Groove’ and title track ‘Future Primitives’ are super-hyped, bass-heavy, 808 locomotives. Slap bang in the thick of a burgeoning UK bass scene, evoking images of mid-week, Mancunian blowouts like Murkage, Heavy Rain or Bass Face.

Benny Grauer has ‘The Poem’ EP set to launch featuring a remix from Lopazz & Willis Halton XTC as well as a dub of the original. ‘The Poem’ kicks the EP off and has both its feet shuffling firmly on the moodier side of deep ‘ahse. A delayed, sinister, melody trickles in and around the chest-pumping bassline like a pick-pocket’s fingers, over the unsuspecting beat. The remix is a playful re-imagining of the original and while lacking the drive and serious demeanour of the top track, it’s a more adventurous composition that works well in its own right. The dub version retains none of those qualities that made the previous two tracks so appealing.

Cardiff duo Bodhi have got the ‘I Need You’ EP out soon on Ten Thousand Yen. The two-tracker is set for digital and vinyl release for the wax aficionados after that authentic sound. ‘I Need You’ is exactly that, a sweeping, authentic house cut with nostalgic organ hits and vocals. ‘Soul Seeker’ has the same ethereal pads and vocal chops but is a breezier, more chilled affair than the title track. ‘WHU’ is like house with mittens on. Soft organ jabs and drums swagger along the angelic ‘oohs’.

So here’s the five samples we’ve hand-selected for your listening pleasure. So fly birds fly! Get ’em on, crank up the volz and remember where you heard ’em first!
