Upcoming Releases: Coming (soon) in your ears

Time to look at what EPs loom large on the horizon as we bring you our pick of the Upcoming Releases.

Top of the bill comes Bristol DJ/producer Christophe and his ‘Gotta Release’ EP set to cause some major dancefloor carnage with his original – the title track – bursting out of a chilled preamble like a beautiful, deep house butterfly. Yet another must-have release from the boys at Hypercolour, ‘Gotta Release’ features a cheeky little sample of one of our classic house faves, ‘Chic Mystique’ by the evergreen Chic. The rest of the EP is filled with a couple of Percy Ingle’s, one by way of James Welsh and something a little different from Last Magpie. If you’re expectingsomething along the lines of ‘Who Knows (Where Love Goes)’ from the latter then keep walking. He packs his remix full of beans with all the energy of his track ‘Roots’ with obvious jungle and breakbeat influences. The James Welsh version is a more cerebral affair, a wide-spectrum, frequency filler, it adds balance to the EP by bringing a bit of calm in the eye of the storm.

We’ve got another deep house EP now, this time from Acid District via Eklektishe music. The ‘This is Not Another’ EP contains two originals plus a Greg Pickock & Mark Jenkyns remix of ‘Wo Working’. God knows what the phrase ‘wo working’ is supposed to represent, but the song itself means business. 808 drum constructions add that unmistakable authenticity behind a suggestive vocal and descending bass notes. The remix is tackled in a more stripped-back manner but maintains the attitude and drive of the Acid District’s own version. ‘Another Love Song’ is another all-action track with saw-toothed bass underlays.

Elsewhere, Jay Mocio and Groovebox are set to drop their ‘Start Moving EP’ contributing an ambitious, perc-alicious title track guaranteed to inflict movement on any in its path. There are three remixes thrown into the bargain, one each Sam & Fresque and D-Unity but by far the pick of the bunch coming courtesy of Dani Sbert. His body-jackin’ side-to-sider kicks up some serious dust from bar one and the pick of this release from Supermarket Records.

Time to slow things down now. Sit back, relax, pour a little liquor over some ice and take your place in a comfy chair and watch the world go by. Black L3GO’s ‘Simple Things’ EP kicks off with ‘Wave’ – a smooth, nostalgic, organic cut that’ll take the sting out of any deadline, traffic jam knots in your shoulders. Pianos and keys are the weapon of choice to guide you through the spring and into the summer, with this laidback four-tracker. ‘Everything’ and ‘YEAH’ add a little energy while ‘Crying’ makes use of an upright bass to jazz things up a little. Out on vinyl in the coming week via Legendary Sound Research.

Last up is a little two-shooter from Schwavek. The ‘Holy Man’ EP features a rolling tech house track of the same name from the Spanish-based producer. Holy Man is balanced by a fizzing, atmospheric remix from Alex Cruzell.
