Tomson, Eddie Leader & Chez Damier – ‘I Am With You’

Tomson, Eddie Leader & Chez Damier – ‘I Am With You’

Evergreen Chicago legend Chez Damier collaborates with Manchester’s own Tomson and Huddersfield’s Eddie Leader for the ‘I Am With You’ EP set to drop on Hudd Traxx.

Out on Monday, the two-tracker has been in the pipeline for some time now since Damier met Leader at the latter’s house and tech night, ‘Content’, in the north west city. The pair obviously hit it off, the fruit of which this spiky, piano-laden house joint with a classic feel.

Damier is of course the man behind ’80s Detroit techno institution the Music Institute and formed one half of the iconic Chez n Trent partnership, with long time pal, Ron Trent, gifting us essential cuts like ‘Sometimes I Feel Like’ and ‘The Choice’ in the early ’90s.

As for Eddie Leader, he himself is a third of Yorkshire-based trio Slum Science who in turn launched Hudd Trax nearly a decade ago. Tomson is the relative unknown here despite a string of releases since 2010 including ‘Rainy Things’ on Freerange Records. That track received support and plays from DJs like Laurent Garnier and Deetron with Paul Woolford even dropping it on his Essential Mix.

Plucky chords dominate the orig’, backed by heads-down bass stabs that come into their own as the track clears out, giving the b-line centre stage. The vocal is weaved perfectly in and out of the mix, all strung together with a hard, crisp drum track driving the whole thing forward.

The dub version takes up track two and is the smoother edit as you might expect. All the same energy and drive but with more rounded edges; subtle differences mean both tracks are club-ready and able to cater for any mood.
