After releasing the delicious BIPP last year through Hudson Mohawke’s LuckyMe label, the mysterious SOPHIE returns with his much awaited follow up ‘Lemonade’.
The enigmatic London-based producer – generally presumed to be male – has been generating as much buzz with his colourful mix of trap and house cuts as he has with his adopted anonymity. Although we’ve not heard any new music from him since BIPP, the follow up to his debut ‘Nothing more to say’ , the producer has been getting attention in the press for his SXSW shows, DJ sets, and considerable influence on the PC Music Label. Now he’s announced the sequel to 2013’s BIPP, featuring tracks ‘Lemonade’ and ‘Hard’ set for release on 8th August via Numbers.
The foundation to A side track ‘Lemonade’ is built around a trap style beat, featuring Hudmo-esque crackle and pop percussion and a husky repeated vocal sample. Interspersed with a kaleidoscopic chorus section, which pops up contrastingly in-between the slinky and addictive central beat, ‘Lemonade’ is a challenging and moreish track that looks set to dominate the speakers at a fair few parties this summer. Accompanied by B side ‘Hard’, this is a release to get excited about!
