Hot on the heels of their impressive debut EP on Tom Budden’s Alive Recordings, mystery duo Joost Kumtome (Just Come To Me), have made things ever the more sweeter with a follow up release that is getting support from exciting artists, and a whole bunch of airplay.
Joost Kumtome’s self-titled first release was done midway through last year and had some incredible tracks on there like the lofty cut of ‘Release Valve’. Since then they’ve been pushing their sound to bigger and bigger heights, their newest offering ‘The Rowheath EP’ is packed with goodness yet again!
The first track ‘What Ya Got’ is a belter that everyone is loving, from Shadow Child to James Zabiela, and it’s easy to see why, laid back house vibes with a throwback to the 90’s, that are wrapped around a female vocal snippet and grimy basslines. Annnnything that youuuuu want… it’s all rather hypnotic.
The second track is actually the one that stands out more to me though, ‘Nectar’ is without a doubt a great cut and the best on the EP, everything about this track works, from its’ dark and twisted nod to drum & bass, to the eloquent keys mixed into it, again like ‘What Ya Got’ the snippets of female vocals coincide with the drops, but this track goes off in clubs, it gets great reactions from the crowd and it sounds really, really neat whether it’s in speakers or on a system.
The last track sees labelhead Tom Budden deliver his own remix of ‘Nectar’. He brings out a faster paced, heavier laced tech vibe on it, lightly tweaking it to his own unique style.
Joost Kumtome are still a little dubious about giving out their identity to the mass appeal, remaining cloaked in the mystery that surrounds their sound. One thing is for certain though, their releases are pretty sweet and it won’t be long before the public demand more.
If that wasn’t enough of them for you, check out the warm feels they’ve given out for free on their edit of Jamie XX’s ‘All Under One Roof Raving’.
