An Interview With Kruse & Nuernberg

Kruse & Nuernberg have been a persistent presence in the deep house scene for quite some time now. With championing releases like Lovers n’ Fighters on Noir Music, (a Beatport Deep House Number 1 for weeks) in 2010, Daze Without You (Resident Advisor Number 2) on Liebe*Detail in 2011 and their Off Course EP on Andre Crom’s OFF Recordings in 2013, the Hamburg duo have shown a consistency that few others can brag about.

Fast forward to 2014 and the guys behind the Save Room imprint have recently collaborated with Isis Salam with their latest release on Exploited titled ‘Nasty Girl’. The release follows Isis’ debut album ‘Let Go’ and features a remix from the legendary DJ Sneak.

TNG thought it was about time they caught up with Kruse & Nuernberg to find out more about the duo and what they got up to this summer.

Who are you? Where are you? What are you?

We are Florian Kruse and Nils Nuernberg aka ‘Kruse & Nuernberg’, both grown up in a provincial area of Northern Germany and now living in Berlin and Hamburg. We produce House music during the week and play it loud over the weekend.

How did your recent track ‘Nasty Girl’ with Isis Salam come about?

We met Isis some time ago through a friend from Australia, Michelle Owen. It actually just happened because we all just function quite well inside and outside the studio. Isis is really quick with understanding the idea of a track and knows how write the right lyrics to give the playback a decent kind of style. So we just hung out in the studio, had a good time as usual, did stuff that we love and the outcome was a “Nasty Girl” 😉

.
How was your summer and what did you get up to?

It was quite a marvelous summer here in Germany. The weather was great and beside working in the studio we had some quality time with friends and family as well as a bunch of really good gigs in Berlin, Zurich, Istanbul, Barcelona, Zurich, Hamburg, etc… It’s not normal for the north of Germany to be able to enjoy such a good summer. Even now it is still very warm. So we’re kind of still enjoying it. The longer the summer the more energy you can suck up to cope with the cold seasons which we are both not really obsessed with.

What’s your favourite EP of all time?

Florian: That’s very hard to say as there are many EPs I dig a lot but the one that came into my mind straight is a Freerange Records release by Motorcitysoul called ‘Aura’. The Jimpster remix is making me still so happy. It’s simply House music, nothing really special but I love it!

Nils: It’s a really old one but never gets out of fashion.

David Alvarado – Blue.

If you could go back to back with any DJ from throughout history, who would it be and why?

We would actually love to play back to back with Catz N Dogz. Only met them once but they play such a cool sound and seem to be very friendly and funny guys.

What were the first and last records you bought?

Florian: First ‘cool’ record I bought was ‘Baby G. – Let Me Be Your Fantasy’. The last one was a Back and Forth Records vinyl by John Dimas and UGLH I think. We are playing with CDs and USBs since more than 4 years.

Nils: The very first vinyl I got was the album of Michael Jackson – Bad. My dad gave it to me after a business trip to Denmark.

If you could play anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

One of the best spots in the world for DJing and an open minded crowd is probably Burning Man. That would be a dream come true for us.

Describe your sound in three words

LOVE – DANCE – GROOVE

What is next for you both?

We are working on a new EP for our home base label OFF Recordings. The playback is already very promising but we haven’t found a vocalist yet. We also have cool gigs scheduled for next month in London, Vienna, Frankfurt, etc…
