Now the sun’s out and everyone’s rocking shades, shorts and vests in the blazing, 10° sunshine, we felt it was the perfect time to kick off our build-up of summer festival previews. We’re starting today with one of the original European festivals which had the UK ravesquad flocking over the continent.
Starting in 2008, Outlook has built a widespread reputation as one of the elite bionic festivals. Featuring the best mix of organic and electronic acts, it is a proud export of British bass and soundsystem culture, this year’s Outlook is typically eclectic and extensive.
The full lineup is an incredible, seemingly endless assortment of quality music. TNG is all about electronic music but if any headliners who fall outside of our hallowed jurisdiction were worth a mention, names like Ms Lauren Hill, Busta Rhymes, Barrington Levy and hall of fame, hip-hop beat magician DJ Premier get a thumbs up from us.
Add to that acts from the dubstep scene (as in influenced by dub not EDM) like Digital Mystikz, Loefah, Youngsta and Icicle. Big names aplenty in the drum & bass department, such as the evergreen Andy C, Dillinja, Alix Perez and Grooverider. 14 years after this gem of an article went out, UKG is as alive as ever with Wookie, MJ Cole, Sunship and everyone’s favourite, DJ EZ. The dance lineup isn’t what you’d expect from a festival these days, that’s exactly its selling point. The carefully selected collection features Detroit OG, Moodymann as well as Floating Points, Hannah Wants and Applebottom.
The festival falls at the back end of August and is set in and around the 150 year old Fort Punta Christo in the home of electronic music festivals – Croatia. Sun, sea and a kilometre stretch of beach make for the perfect setting sun-up, through sun-down. Tickets to the Adriatic boat parties are essential.
This year will see the return of their magical opening concerts at the Pula Arena, an open-air amphitheatre built by the original lovers of electronic music, the Romans. Check out a last year’s concert announcement video and ticket prices. The only available tickets for the festival proper are priced at around £150.
Check out these tracks/sets from artists featuring at Outlook 2014 including a classic ’98 Grooverider set and a Moodymann mix from Paris ’95.
