Chromatic launch Hype & Pascal’s incubator New Playaz label with the release of their ‘Think Fast EP.
You know your star is rising when you are given the honour of being the first release on Hype & Pascal ‘New Playaz’ imprint. This is what’s been bestowed on the Nottingham based trio Chromatic but who rather than shy from the occasion, they instead have seen fit to produce an EP more than fitting for the occasion.
With releases on the main Playaz Imprint, DJ Marky’s Innerground Records and BTK’s Dutty Audio, the trio have been building a name for themselves with a steady string of quality tunes but you get the feeling it’s their latest which is set to see them truly blow up in the world of drum and bass.
What’s clear with this and previous releases is the sheer versatility in their productions. A range of influences flow through their music and whether it’s a straight up banger or a euphoric anthem, Chromatic aren’t afraid to mix it up.
With their ‘Think Fast’ EP, the group have brought all this and more to the table. ‘Daylight Savings’, featuring fellow Notts producer J:Daure, is an absolute stormer; a beautiful and haunting vocal sample draws you in before the bass absolutely rips you apart. Title track ‘Think Fast’ forces you to do exactly that, with a driving beat and scratchy bass layered with subtle vocals, its again an absolute monster of tune.
‘NLP’, with its jungle breaks and jazzy soulful vibe switches things up a bit. Once again the use of the vocal sample really sets the tune off while ‘Warp’ rounds things up with a driving snare and a production which isn’t afraid to go places. It’s got the perfect the spaced out feeling for those times on the dance floor when…well, when you are feeling pretty spaced out.
‘Think Fast’ is out now on New Playaz and its a fitting release to carry the ‘NEWPLAYAZ001’ moniker. The second half of 2014 is set to be a major for Chromatic and they couldn’t have got off to a better start.
