Alex Parkin – ‘Nasty Thing’ EP

Crisp biscuit! Alex Parkin takes it back to the future with a potent dose of garagematic 4×4 on Roska Kicks & Snares. A talented DJ emerging out of the Midlands area, snapped up by Roska himsen, drops the ‘Nasty Thing’ EP at the end of the month. A deep and bassy three-tracker, the release features a collaboration with Chris Lorenzo best known to us for his joint-efforts with Hannah Wants like ‘Dappy’ and ‘Kneadin”.

Title track ‘Nasty Thing’ is a roving leviathan that switches back and forth between basses without mercy. A definite garage sound but with all the audacity of UK bass, Nasty Thing is ready to tear up floors and festivals way into 2014, out on 24th March.

‘Prove 2 U’ picks up right where the top track left off. The same big bass sounds and rhythm but with more vocal play and a gentler approach with soft organ chords mixing it up. From A to ‘Zed’. The final track on the EP is another solo cut from the Birmingham producer and like Nasty Thing goes for the same bossy, stripped-back strategy. In the sagacious, pre-Walford words of Danny Dyer, “these boys are naughty” – well worth a butchers and a formidable release for RKS.
